Frameless Glass Shower Doors: Cost, Styles & What to Expect

A frameless glass shower enclosure is one of the fastest ways to make a bathroom feel modern and larger — and one of the easiest home upgrades to get wrong with a bad measurement. Here's what to know before you start.

Frameless vs. Framed: What's the Real Difference?

Framed shower enclosures use metal channels around the glass edges, which is more forgiving of slightly uneven walls and typically costs less. Frameless enclosures use thicker tempered glass — usually 3/8" to 1/2" — with minimal metal hardware, held in place by heavy-duty clips and hinges instead of a full frame. The result is a cleaner, more contemporary look that's also easier to keep clean since there's no metal channel for grime to collect in. Frameless costs more upfront but tends to add more resale value and hold up longer.

Common Styles We Install

  • Single-panel over a tub — a fixed glass panel that replaces a shower curtain, common in guest bathrooms
  • Corner/neo-angle enclosures — frameless glass on two or three sides for a walk-in corner shower
  • Full walk-in enclosures — no door at all, just a fixed glass panel with an open entry, popular in modern primary bathroom remodels
  • Sliding frameless doors — for showers where a swinging door won't clear the room

Why On-Site Measurement Matters

Older homes across Los Angeles, Pasadena, and Long Beach in particular often have walls and tile that aren't perfectly square — sometimes by half an inch or more over the width of a shower. Frameless glass is cut to exact dimensions, so an inaccurate measurement means a gap, a rattle, or glass that doesn't sit flush. We measure every job on-site, in person, not from photos or a rough phone estimate.

What Affects the Price

Glass thickness, the number of panels, hardware finish (chrome, brushed nickel, matte black), and whether the enclosure needs custom notches for a niche or bench all affect cost. As with our other services, we don't quote shower glass over the phone — we measure in person and give you an itemized number before any work begins. See our dedicated Shower Glass page for the full range of styles and hardware finishes, or our broader Glass & Mirrors page for custom cutting and mirror installation.
